HaydenHayden Pannetiere is apparently on board to produce a new drama for the CW network that focuses on the intense lives of a group of Harvard Medical School students. Because when I think of brilliant young med students Hayden Panettiere is the first thing that flashes into my mind. The show has been tentatively given the imaginative title of "HMS". So now I am thinking Hayden probably is involved. The show will be told through the point of view of a young female medical student who will not be played by Pannetiere. "Mystic Pizza" writer Amy Holden Jones will be penning the script. Hmm. A medical drama about sexy young people told through the voice of a neurotic but appealing young doctor (almost)? This sounds a little familar. Well, the CW saw the success of the powerhouse that is Grey's Anatomy (as well as Private Practice) and wants to cash in on it. The CW already has cashed in on the young, hot high school (90210), college (now Gossip Girl) and post-college (Melrose Place) niche. Though I am not sure if you can say any of the characters on those shows are particularly smart. The CW seems to be taking this "let a random star produce a show to make it sound good" tactic a lot since they have also greenlit a show produced by Tom Welling of Smallville. It is called "Hellcats" and is being described as an ensemble show set in the world of competitive college cheerleading. It is being pitched as a cross between "Election" and "Bring it On". The network is also producing the show "Betwixt" based on the novel of the same name which revolves around "changelings" in an urban setting that save human lives. Changelings are defined as the offspring of a fairy, troll, elf or other fictional creature of that sort. Because hell, if a Gossip Girl spin-off doesn't work, go with a show about troll offspring.
